60th Anniversary Exhibition at the Bassetlaw Museum

21st June 2011
Members and public visitors are welcome to our 60th Anniversary Annual Exhibition at the Bassetlaw Museum, 40 Grove Street, Retford. The exhibition is open from 10am until 4.30pm from Monday until Saturday and finally closes on Saturday 16th July.

The Exhibition was opened by Spencer Welchman, the great grandson of Edgar Welchman, the famous Retford Photographer from the early 1900s.

The Exhibition takes the form of members photographs displayed in the Percy Laws gallery and in addition an exhibition of photographic memorabilia and history of the Society displayed in the Museum’s ‘music’ room at the rear of Amcott house. In this part of the exhibition we are also trying to contrast the style of pictures taken in the 50’s and 60’s with those taken today.
We have produced a small booklet on the history of the Society, written by Ron Beare, Albert Phillipson and Andrew Paul, all of whom are honorary members of the Society.
The booklet is on sale at the museum during the exhibition and can also be obtained from Members of the committee.
Those visiting the exhibition are asked to complete a voting slip to identify their favourite colour and Black & White picture so that trophies can be awarded to members.
