MEMORIAL NIGHT

23rd March 2026

We held two memorial competitions this year, both on the same night. The print class was for the Dennis Rich Memorial Trophy. This is an open competition for printed images and each member was able to submit one monochrome and one colour image. The format is that the entries are placed on a table and identified only by number. They may have been shown previously that season at the club, so those members with better memories might remember the authors. Despite all efforts to do so, there is no way Alan Burkwood could remain anonymous with a steam train shot.

Members were invited to walk round the table and select the identifying number of their favourite image, with how ‘favourite’ was defined being left to the individual. The votes were collected on a voting slip and counted, which revealed three joint winning shots. Conveniently Alan Burkwood was responsible for both’ Orange Meets Green’ and ‘Storm in Garsdale’, while Joyce Bell was the author of ‘A Cornish Stroll’, so they will share the trophy and only two names will ned to be engraved on it.

The digital memorial trophy competition is dedicated to Rosemary Wright. Members could each enter one image of any subject and the 17 entries were shown in sequence three times. Members had the titles on their voting slips. After viewing, each member could vote for one image. The votes were counted and the winner was announced as Lee Dalgleish with ‘Spiky Pose’. It was a close contest with joint second, and only one vote behind, being Joyce Bell and Andy Stephenson.
