Preparations for the New Season

It seems no time since we enjoyed the final meeting of the last season, thinking how far away September seemed. Now plans are well advanced for the opening of the club’s 2025 – 2026 season, which begins on 1st September. As we meet on Monday evenings and start on the first Monday in September, this is the earliest date a meeting could occur.

The first meeting will be an introductory night when details of what the programme for the coming season has to offer will be revealed. As usual there will be a good mix of speakers, presentations by members and competitions with the occasional practical opportunity. One of the annual competitions has a theme, and this year it will be ‘Reflections’. Members have submitted some excellent shots of this type in the past, so we hope for good things.

There is also a new event – an evening with Bolsover club’s members in each half of the programme. They will send a presenter to us to show some of their work in October and we will reciprocate in March, sending small group of our members with selection of our images to entertain them.

On our second evening back together will welcome Chris Newham with a presentation based on his digital images from the Faroe Islands. In October Jim Price and Fred will be bringing some prints. They were good fun on their previous visit, so this is one not to miss.

The annual subscription is being retained at the 2024/5 price and current members are asked come with their payment ready in an envelope marked with their name and membership number. This will speed things up at the desk and make things easier for our Treasurer.

The first evening is an excellent time for anyone thinking of giving the club a try to come along. It will give a good idea of what the year ahead will hold and visitors will have an opportunity to meet members returning for another season. Visitors pay only the guest fee and can come on a total of three occasions before committing to paying to become a member. Of course, if you previous members who have taken a break will be very warmly welcomed back.

The meeting begins at 7.30pm and everyone is asked to arrive a little before that as the signing in desk will be busy and we will be doing our best to start the evening on time.

The club meets at St Joseph’s Hall, Babworth Road, Retford at 7.30pm every Monday and apart from the seasonal break in mid-season, there will be a meeting every Monday until the end of April 2026. The web site web site: www.retford-photographic.co.uk gives information about the club and will soon give details of the new programme. Please check it as the start of the season approaches.
